What is Regulated Medical Waste (RMW)? These are wastes generated in healthcare settings that may be contaminated by blood, body fluids, or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). Special handling and disposal of DEA-regulated substances:

• Expired controlled substances
• Partially used medications

Hazardous chemical waste generated in healthcare settings, often regulated under RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act):

• Used or expired laboratory chemicals and reagents
  (e.g., acids, bases, solvents used in diagnostics, research, and analysis)
• Preservative solutions
  (e.g., formalin, formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde used for specimen preservation and disinfection)
• Staining reagents and chromogens
  (e.g., DAB [3,3'-diaminobenzidine], hematoxylin, eosin, and other histology stains)
• Industrial cleaning and disinfecting agents
